Encountering Jesus

February 23, 2026

If you could meet Jesus face to face, what would you say? What would you do? Is there anything you’d ask him? Your answers likely depend on your own personal experiences—what you’ve been through—but also on who you believe Jesus is.

The Gospel of John records a series of personal encounters different people had with Jesus—the things he said to them, the questions they asked him, and the conversations that unfolded between them. When they first met him, some had no idea who he was. Others thought he was a great prophet, or even the promised Messiah of Israel. But regardless of their first impressions, none of them walked away unchanged. And for many, their encounter with Jesus led them to the astonishing conclusion that this man truly was and is God in the flesh.

This Lent, we are taking time to explore six of these stories together in worship, reflecting on these personal encounters with Jesus. Because Lent is a season focused on reflection, encounter, and belief, these stories are perhaps the perfect preparation for Easter. As we journey through John’s Gospel together, we invite you to join us each week and consider what it might mean for you to encounter Jesus for yourself.
